Entering the Holiest of Weeks

Entering the Holiest of Weeks

A Palm Sunday Reflection an Invitation and a Challenge

There’s something compelling about Palm Sunday. It holds promises of joy but also hints at the sorrow ahead. We sense the anticipation—the streets of Jerusalem filled, palms waving, people cheering, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” Yet beneath this celebration lies a profound question for each of us: What will we do with this Jesus who humbly rides a donkey, heading inevitably toward the cross?

Palm Sunday draws us into a narrative bigger than ourselves. It urges us not just to watch from afar but to walk alongside Jesus through the profound depths and heights of the week ahead. Holy Week isn’t merely another set of church events—it’s the heart of Christian faith. This week narrates God’s unmatched love, vividly shown through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Maybe your spiritual life feels comfortable, even predictable. Perhaps faith has become just a Sunday routine. But my people, the world has seen enough of “In-name-only (nominal) Christianity” . The journey beginning on Palm Sunday is far from routine; it’s transformative. It challenges our assumptions, disrupts our complacency, and invites us into deeper faith. This week is designed to provoke questions and encourage personal reflection.

On that first Palm Sunday, the crowd’s enthusiasm was clear—full of excitement and hope. But their cheers soon became calls for crucifixion. Why such a rapid change? Perhaps Jesus didn’t match their expectations. When He chose sacrifice over victory and humility over power, many walked away. Doesn’t this happen in our lives as well? How often do we step back when Jesus doesn’t fulfill our expectations or answer our prayers as we expect?

Holy Week reminds us that Jesus isn’t always who we imagine Him to be; He’s much greater. He sees our deepest struggles and still deliberately moves toward the cross, committed to redeeming and restoring us. Jesus doesn’t avoid suffering; He embraces it, for each of us.

Consider this scenario: If someone risked everything to protect you, standing between you and danger, you’d naturally want to understand their actions. You’d want to know more about such profound sacrifice. This is precisely what Holy Week represents—Jesus deliberately stepping into danger and absorbing pain meant for us. Why? Because your life genuinely matters to Him. Your eternity was worth every step He took.

Palm Sunday is just the start. On Maundy Thursday at 7 PM, we remember Jesus’ final meal with His disciples, where He taught, “Love one another as I have loved you.” This service offers deep reflection on Christ’s love, which remains steadfast even amid betrayal and abandonment.

Good Friday, also at 7 PM, takes us further into reflection. It’s not an easy gathering; it’s somber and profound. Yet, it’s beneath the shadow of the cross that we truly grasp the depth of God’s love—a love willing to suffer and die for humanity. Good Friday prompts us to acknowledge our need for forgiveness and recognize the powerful hope found even in our darkest moments.

These gatherings aren’t just rituals; they’re key moments meant to deeply impact our faith. Holy Week isn’t about religious obligation—it’s about personal transformation, encountering a love so deep it refuses to leave us unchanged.

Maybe your life feels cluttered or comfortably compartmentalized. Holy Week interrupts this comfort—it’s profoundly compelling. It asks you to set aside lesser things for something infinitely more valuable. Let Holy Week interrupt your regular schedule as well. It invites you into a story that has changed countless lives throughout history and can significantly impact yours.

I warmly invite you to prioritize Holy Week this year. Commit yourself to walk through each day—from Palm Sunday’s joy, through Maundy Thursday’s intimacy, into Good Friday’s solemnity, and toward Easter’s celebration. Each step promises deeper understanding, richer faith, and a stronger relationship with Jesus.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your life truly matters, Holy Week provides a clear answer: You matter enough for the Son of God to willingly suffer and die for you. If you’re spiritually curious or uncertain, this is exactly the time to explore more deeply. Allow your questions to draw you into these meaningful gatherings.

Make this Palm Sunday not just another ordinary Sunday, but the beginning of something extraordinary in your spiritual journey. Take this invitation seriously—engage fully and openly. You may discover, as many others have, that fully embracing Holy Week brings unexpected renewal to your faith.

Join us this Palm Sunday at 10 AM, Maundy Thursday at 7 PM, and Good Friday at 7 PM. Engage deeply with these moments; allow them to challenge and shape you. Experience the transformative power of Christ’s passion and resurrection.

This is the holiest of weeks, a week that changed history and can profoundly impact your story. Jesus believed you were worth every sacrifice He endured. He still does. This Holy Week, let’s not just observe—let’s fully participate, bringing our lives, questions, and hearts to the One who gave everything for us.

I look forward to journeying through this sacred week with you. Let’s let it shape us deeply, move us profoundly, and leave us changed.

Pastor Mark
