An invitation to Discipleship, INFORMATION MEETING OCTOBER 1, 11:30 AM.
This is your invitation for training in the ways of Jesus.
Life to Life Discipleship (https://nalclifetolife.org) experience is a foundational training process for learning to:
- Take responsibility for your own lifelong spiritual growth (Colossians 1:9-14).
- Be equipped to increasingly develop character traits and competencies that remind others of Jesus (1 Corinthians 11:1).
- Invest in new generations of Christ-followers who then do the same as we take our place in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20)
The ways of Jesus and His Kingdom work differently than the secular world. It takes intentional training in a loving, Christian community. In this course, you will experience both traditional “book learning” and, more importantly, get to practice new skills that have the potential to transform your life and those who get to be around you.
You’ll be formed to move beyond knowing about Jesus and the beliefs of the Church to knowing Jesus more intimately than ever, joyfully living out your God-ordained purpose in his Church for the sake of the world.
People who are actively growing in their faith are significantly more effective at inviting others to consider Christ than those who simply want their church membership numbers to grow on a Sunday morning. Discipleship is the plan Jesus gave his Church to further his Kingdom and bless the world (Matthew 28, Mark 16 Acts 1).
One of the sometimes hard-to-understand paradoxes of Kingdom life versus secular thinking is that when we give ourselves way for the Gospel, we actually get a life that matters. And when we try to save ourselves and only consider what is best for us; our family, our congregation, etc., we lose it all. (See Matthew 16:24-26).
To learn the way of Jesus, you will be trained in:
– Paradigms (new ways of seeing)
– Postures (new ways of being)
– Practices (new ways of doing)
This all culminates in helping you develop an intentional process for making disciples who live in the way of Jesus in our community.
So, come to the Information Session this Sunday, October 1 at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided. Bring an empty belly and a spiritually hungry heart.
Also, PLEASE LET US KNOW YOU ARE COMING so that we can plan accordingly. Text or call Pastor Mark at 317-313-0756
Basic expectations
The Three C’s:
· Calendar/commit to seven ninety-minute sessions in the Fall of 2023 for Part I. After a Christmas/New Year’s break, we will resume part II. Part II will cover eight topics over sixteen weeks, finishing around the start of the Easter Season. For some, the enemy of the good is perfection. In other words, if you cannot attend every session, perfectly, do not let that deter you from joining. Meaningful participation looks like being present more than absent. Much of what happens that is meaningful happens in the context of the meeting. This may mean stepping down from some current responsibilities in order to not over-commit.
· Confidentiality: This way of training for discipleship involves at times varying degrees of personal transparency. Sharing details of this outside of the group without prior permission is a violation of trust.
· Courage: Courage is not the absence of fear or discomfort. It is the choice to do what is right in spite of fear/discomfort. We will never pressure anyone to do or share anything they are unwilling to share. However, we will frequently invite participants to step out of their comfort zones for the purpose of maturing unto the likeness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13)
This is for everyone, but it may not be for everyone. That means that if you are not ready due to circumstances of life or just general cautiousness, please be assured that there will be opportunities later. No one will be pressured but all are invited.
See you in Church!
Pastor Mark
